OSP Newsletter Vol 3, Issue 2
Our third edition of the Oregon Star Party (OSP) newsletters marks the last issue before the gathering at Indian Trail Spring. We hope that you have gotten something out of the three publications. Just to remind everyone the fire danger is rated at EXTREME, please be mindful of open flames. Campfires are banned at OSP and the entirety of all public lands in Eastern Oregon. Keep cooking stoves and grills off the ground on tables (No charcoal cooking grills period). Smoking and Vaping are allowed but must be kept to your personal vehicle or the gravel portions of 800/802 roads. Paying attention to fire situations isn’t just confined to OSP. Currently several wildfires are being battled near highways that lead to Central Oregon (Hwy 22 west of Mt. Jefferson and Hwy 26 on the Warm Springs Reservation). Another 20 fires started from lightning strikes yesterday (August 10) and more are expected over the weekend. To help you in your travels be sure to check the latest road conditions at http://tripcheck.com. Fill your gas tank before you head into Ochocos, over 350,000 people are expected to visit Central Oregon.
The weather is expect to moderate over the weekend. High temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s in the middle of the week, rising to around 90 on the weekend, and then returning to the low 80s the following Monday and Tuesday. Low temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s the first part of the star party and then cooling to the mid-30s towards the end of the star party. Dress appropriately!
In closing, we at Oregon Star Party hope that you will meet people that share an interested in astronomy, are able to learn something new, reconnect with old friends and/or meet new friends, and just plain have fun while attending the event.
Clear skies and safe travels,
The Oregon Star Party Committee
