OSP Youth Telescope
Mentoring
Is your family telescope a bit too technical for the 8 to 18-year-old in
your family? Are your kids not getting much telescope time when competing
with the rest of the family?
The Oregon Star Party is again offering a Youth Telescope Area. This is an
opportunity for your son or daughter to have quality time with a telescope,
a sky chart, and a personal guide. We offer the use of six fully-equipped
Dobsonian reflecting telescopes, each accompanied by an adult mentor.
-
Parents are asked to sign their
youth up for a one-hour time slot with one
of the above telescopes upon arrival at the OSP Information Tent (across
from the Main Activity Tent).
-
This program is offered for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from
9:30pm to 10:30pm and 10:30pm to 11:30pm in the area immediately west of the Main Activity Tent.
-
Participation will be limited to 12 per evening. There are two sessions each
evening, each lasting an hour.
-
Kids will
each be paired up with and guided by a knowledgeable adult at each
telescope.
-
Parents are asked to personally deliver their child and meet the
mentoring adult at the beginning of their time slot. During that hour,
parents are welcome to hang out nearby at Bernie Kuehn’s camp for answering
of astronomical questions.
Are you willing to share your
knowledge as a Mentor?
Contact Bernie Kuehn at OSP if you are willing to be a mentor.
We provide a Dob and star
chart.
