Safety Tips

• Remember that the nearest medical facility is in Prineville. We strongly advise you to bring a well-stocked first aid kit.

• Forest Service regulations require that you bring a bucket, a shovel, and an extra five gallons of water dedicated for fire suppression.

You will need to bring water along with you as there is none on site. The nearest available potable water is at the Big Summit ranger Station road. This is approximately 25 miles, about an hour’s drive away.

• Bring plenty of warm clothes, a hat and rain gear, as well as warm weather clothes and sunscreen. Despite warm daytime temperatures it can get chilly at 5000 feet at night.

• We strongly suggest that you bring along a piece of outdoor carpeting to put under your telescope. This will greatly help keep the dust down around your gear. Tarps should be used to protect gear from the dust during the daytime.

• We will provide portable toilets on site throughout the weekend. They will be pumped daily.

• Solar blankets are excellent for covering the side of your tent if you camp where there is no shade. They will keep your tent cooler for daytime sleeping if the weather is hot.

• RV wastewater disposal is at the Crook County RV Park.

• Please help keep the dust down on site by driving 5 mph or slower and keeping trips to absolute minimum. Note: this also includes bicycles!
