OSP LocationINDIAN
TRAIL SPRING - Latitude 44° 17.8', Longitude 120° 9.5', elevation 5,000
feet. The Oregon Star Party operates under a Special Use Permit on the Ochoco National Forest. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. The site is located on primitive and undeveloped Forest Service land, approximately one hour’s traveling time east of Prineville, Oregon, which is the nearest location for medical facilities, supplies, WATER and gas. There is no water available on site. We are on 40 acres of prairie with small
bushes (a foot or so) in the viewing fields and there are trees surrounding
the viewing areas. Tent camping, Tent Trailers, pickups and vans are
permitted in the trees, but Motorhomes and Trailers are only allowed within
100' of the graveled 800 and 802 roads. However, other restrictions may be
in place for where the above are allowed on site as needed or required by
the USFS. Fire Restrictions here.
Generator Restrictions here. The road to OSP is paved all the way up to NFS 4240 then rest of the route (about 4 miles) is graveled. Cars, RV's, motor homes, campers and trailers can all make the trip. However parts of the graveled road might be in "washboard" condition and can be narrow for wider vehicles. There are no overly steep climbs or descents. We do bring in a large 70 foot 18 wheel shower truck, so RVs can make it with little problem.
